Maintenance Plans

A proper maintenance plan keeps aircons, refrigeration, pumps and solar systems working when the weather turns hard or the load-shedding schedule changes. We help sites in Kimberley and across the Northern Cape plan service visits before faults turn into costly downtime.

What a maintenance plan covers on site

A maintenance plan is a planned service schedule for equipment that must keep running through summer heat, dusty conditions and power interruptions. For commercial and industrial sites, it is better to check a system before the first fault than to wait for a breakdown on a Friday afternoon when stock is at risk and staff are under pressure.

For many Northern Cape sites, the plan will include air-conditioning units, refrigeration systems, cold rooms, ventilation fans, water pumps, auto aircon units and solar backup equipment. We can set the visit pattern to suit the site, whether that is monthly, quarterly, or before the change of season. The aim is simple: keep the gear clean, tested and ready for the next busy period.

Why Kimberley sites benefit from planned servicing

Dust, high summer temperatures and long hours of operation all shorten the working life of plant if it is left unchecked. In places like New Park, Roodepan, Galeshewe, Kuruman and Upington, a blocked filter or loose electrical connection can cause more trouble than many managers expect. A small fault can also push electricity use higher, which is a problem when every rand matters.

Planned servicing helps with compliance too. Some premises need records for refrigeration checks, ventilation performance or cold room temperature monitoring. Good records make it easier to show that the site has been looked after properly, which can help during audits, handovers and insurance queries.

  • Cleaner filters and coils
  • Better cooling and airflow
  • Fewer surprise breakdowns
  • Lower risk of spoiled stock
  • Improved electrical safety checks

How we set up the service schedule

Every site runs differently, so we start by looking at what equipment is installed, how often it runs and where the pressure points are. A cold room at a food store needs a different plan from a small office with a few split units, and a workshop compressor area is not the same as a retail shop. We keep the plan practical and easy to follow.

Once the equipment list is confirmed, we set service intervals and note the parts that should be checked each time. That may include refrigerant pressures, thermostat operation, drain lines, fan motors, belts, isolators, pump seals, inverter settings and battery health on solar backup systems. If there are repeat issues, we build them into the plan so they are checked first. That saves time and avoids a call out later on.

  • Site survey and equipment list
  • Service interval agreed with the client
  • Parts and labour plan prepared
  • Visit dates booked in advance
  • Service reports shared after each visit

What happens during a planned maintenance visit

During a visit, the technician inspects the unit, cleans the working parts and tests the system under normal conditions. On aircons, that usually means checking filters, drains, indoor and outdoor fan operation, and the condition of the wiring and mounting. On refrigeration equipment, we look at temperature control, gas levels, compressor performance and whether the cabinet or cold room is holding temperature properly.

For pumps, we check leaks, pressure, electrical load and any signs of wear on the motor or seals. For ventilation systems, airflow and belt condition matter just as much as the motor itself. On solar backup systems, battery health, cable condition and changeover behaviour are important. If we spot a small issue, we will say so plainly and explain the risk. Sometimes a minor part replacement now prevents a far bigger repair later, which is usually the cheaper option.

How maintenance plans help different types of premises

Retail shops, offices, food stores, workshops, farms and light industrial sites all use equipment in different ways. A business with long trading hours may need more frequent checks, while a seasonal operation may need a spring service before peak demand. We can also support sites that rely on auto aircon for service vehicles, because breakdowns there affect staff movement and delivery schedules.

For cold rooms and refrigeration, stock protection is often the main concern. For ventilation, it is comfort and air movement. For water pumps, it may be supply reliability or pressure. When the plan is matched to the site, there is less waste and less emergency work. That is especially useful in the Northern Cape, where travel time between towns can make urgent callouts expensive and slow.

Getting started with a plan from our Kimberley team

To set up a maintenance plan, send through your site details, equipment list and preferred service frequency. We can work from a new handover, an existing asset register, or a walk-through on site. If you do not have full records, that is fine too, we can help build them up from the start. The important part is making the next service date clear and keeping it on track.

Modern Equipment has been based in New Park, Kimberley since 2002, and we support customers across New Park, Kimberley, Roodepan, Galeshewe, Kuruman and Upington. If you want routine service support for air-conditioning, refrigeration, pumps, ventilation or solar backup, contact our team and we will help set the schedule in a way that suits the site and the season.

Questions we get asked

What equipment can be included in a maintenance plan?

Air-conditioning, refrigeration, cold rooms, ventilation systems, water pumps, auto aircon units and solar backup equipment can all be included.

How often should a site be serviced?

It depends on usage and conditions. Many sites use monthly or quarterly servicing, while seasonal sites may need visits before summer or before peak trading periods.

Do you cover towns outside Kimberley?

Yes. We support customers in Kimberley, New Park, Roodepan, Galeshewe, Kuruman, Upington and wider Northern Cape areas by arrangement.
